Challenge a CourseIf you are an experienced sailor, you may challenge any US Sailing course to achieve your desired certification level. With previous experience and competency, you can challenge the required prerequisite levels by completing the written and practical examinations for each level. To challenge a course, you will need to complete an on-the-water check out for the highest level of certification you are challenging. Once you pass the practical exam, you can then take the written tests for each appropriate certification level. An example is that you wish to challenge the Bareboat Cruising certification. Our instructors will take you for an on-the-water check out at the bareboat cruising level to ensure that you have the knowledge and skill set required for the certification. Pass the practical and then you can take the multiple-choice exams for the certification and each of the prerequisites: the Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, and Bareboat Cruising levels.
